Happy New Year

Happy New Year to all our First Steps families we hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. The children were very excited to talk about their presents and what a wonderful time they had.  If you do have any photographs or videos, please do upload them to tapestry we would love to see them and it also gives the children the opportunity to share their memories with their friends.  If you are unable to access your tapestry account, please speak to a member of staff

Brrrr It’s That Time of Year

We have been experiencing some very cold weather and its looks like it will only get colder.  So please can we ask that the children come equipped with the appropriate clothing warm coats, hats, scarves, gloves with waterproof wellies for when they go outside.  At First Steps we are strong advocates for learning outside and therefore offer the garden throughout the day in all weathers, so the children must be dressed suitably.

Also, can we please request that all children have spare clothes in their bags and that all clothes and coats are clearly labelled.

World Book Day

We will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 7th March.  We invite all the children to dress up as their favourite story character and bring in a book of their choice if they would like to read it at nursery (please write the child’s name in the book).  World Book Day is a fantastic opportunity to inspire children and encourage them to become interested in stories, if you would like more information please visit https://www.worldbookday.com/.

Room News

Pre-school – We have had a very busy start of the new year with new starters and a new room layout.  You may have noticed our pirate ship roleplay which the children have enjoyed playing in.  The children have come back very excited to talk, draw and write about their presents which has encouraged them to develop their communication skills.  Now that Christmas is over we will be focusing on preparing the children for school we will still be following our ‘In the Moment Planning’ ethos but with some focused activities to develop their skills in all areas.

Now that you have completed the school application process please do keep us informed on where you have applied and eventually where they have been accepted so that we are able to build a partnership with their future teachers to ensure their transition from First Steps is successful.

Please can we remind all parents, they must press the buzzer and wait to be let in.  This is for the safety of the children.

Diamond Nursery – Well here in Diamond Nursery we have been as busy as we can be by welcoming new children in our room either from the Toddler Stars children transitioning to us or children new to the setting.  We have had a slight change of the room layout to keep the room looking fresh and inviting and so the children were excited to explore the space.  We have introduced lots of new art activities a particular favourite was mixing paint and shaving foam to make patterns and then printing it on to paper.  The children have also shown a lot of interest in roleplay and have enjoyed dressing up as different characters and creating different roleplay scenarios.  We have ordered lots more dressing up clothes to support their play including super heroes and characters from Frozen.

Toddler Stars – The big news in the Toddler Stars room is that our dividing wall is now gone.  We want to thank you all for being so patient it’s been a topsy turvy time but we are now at the end of our refurbishment journey.   After having the room refurbished and new lino put down.  We have really focused upon introducing small world roleplay to sensory play recently, we made green rice and added pineapple tops to make palm trees to set a scene for animals and vehicles this is a fantastic way to encourage roleplay and use one object to represent another.

Baby Room– Welcome back to all of our children we hope you all had a lovely Christmas and welcome to all of our new starters we hope you will be very happy at First Steps.  We have dived into sensory experiences in the new year with a range of messy play activities including, hay and animals, foam, water and oats which has been a fantastic way to encourage the children to feel textures.  We have also enjoyed mark making in different ways and dipped balls in paint and rolled over paper to make patterns, a fun messy activity enjoyed by all.  We also like the babies to get outside when possible, so we ask for appropriate footwear and clothing, this gives them the opportunity to explore the outdoor toddler area.
