Parent/child questionnaire evaluation

Thank you to all 64 parents that completed and returned our questionnaire we are so pleased to receive so many positive comments and are very grateful for your time. We have recorded some results into charts and broken down the results into rooms, to help us feedback and address areas raised.

Baby room-

Thank you for your time and to those parents who completed and returned the questionnaires. The vast majority of you were pleased with the meals your child receives, and I can assure you that ‘First Steps’ values and understands the importance of children receiving healthy low salt/sugar meals baked beans for example are the low salt and sugar variety.  The snacks that are provided mid-morning and recently introduced in the early afternoon consist of a selection of fresh fruit and vegetable sticks with oat/rice cakes mini bread sticks and mini cheddars with the option of fresh milk or water. Children are also encouraged throughout the day to drink fresh water from our water machines located in every room.

Toddler room-

A menu is always displayed on the door to the Toddler room and has been sent to all parents on kinder soft, if you require a Summer menu in hard copy please ask a member of staff. We also welcome all parents’ opinions and ideas so if you have any suggestions and ideas so please feel free to bring them to us.

Nursery parents-

Thank you for your time and to those parents who completed and returned the questionnaires.

Thank you for all the positive feedback concerning Tapestry.  Most parents are regularly checking your child’s learning journal which is great to hear. Please feel free to talk to your child’s key person at any time if you are at all unsure about your child’s development or next steps.  We continuously assess the children in their relevant age brackets, we are also able to assess what the children do at home so please do continue to upload photo’s and videos from home it will all help towards their development.

It is great to hear that you mostly all know who your child’s key person is and many of you have quoted that your child is aware of this too. It is nice to hear that most parents understand the importance and role of a key person, for those parents who were unsure of the role of the key person within the setting we have produced a leaflet out lining the role. On the back of the leaflet we have also given an explanation of the ‘In The Moment Planning’ ethos that we practice at First Steps, if you have any questions or would like to discuss this way of planning please don’t hesitate to ask for a meeting with your child’s key person or room supervisor.

This leaflet is attached to this newsletter or available as a hard copy in the reception.

Preschool parents-

It was mentioned that in the preschool the menus were not available however they are always displayed on the notice boards, and are rotated on a four weekly rota, our menu has been created to support all the children with different food requirements, preferences and allergies.  Our cook Jane tries her hardest to meet everyone’s needs and to offer the same meal to all the children. The new summer menu is proving to be a great success with the children enjoying many foods for the first time, it has also been emailed to you via kinder soft however if you would like a hard copy please ask the room supervisor. If you have any ideas for meals that we can use please feel free to write these down, so we can pass them onto our cook.

We have received positive feedback about Tapestry and are pleased that the majority of parents are viewing their children’s learning journal it is such a special and important part of their learning.

It is nice to hear that most parents understand knew importance and role of a key person, for those parents who were unsure of the role of the key person within the setting we have produced a leaflet out lining the role. Many parents stated that they could clearly see and understand how their child’s learning was furthered and next steps achieved. On the back of the leaflet we have also given an explanation of the ‘In the Moment Planning’ ethos that we practice at First Steps.

We have been trying to get a new metal gate fitted to the preschool entrance since February, and appreciate your patience, we are working with the company to attain a finishing date which will hopefully be in June.

However please rest assured that the gate has the added security of a key lock when ever the children are in the garden.

Some parents said that they would benefit from further parents’ evenings, may I mention that every term your child receives a report and on the bottom of that report is the option for you to make an appointment to come in and discuss your child’s development, please feel free to use this service as the girls will be more than happy to make an appointment.  We have however revised our school readiness leaflet to support the preschool parents/children with getting prepared and transitioning onto ‘big school’ which has been handed out to all our preschool parents this term, we hope you have found this information useful.

According to the questionnaire no parent could not think of any additional ways in which we could improve our partnership with parents, however we are always trying to improve and adapt our provisions to be able to support and reach all our parents to support the children the best we can.

Children’s questionnaire nursery/preschool – Thank you all we have had some fantastic answers each room has taken their key children’s answers and will aim to implement their ideas and interests as best as they can in their rooms.
