First Steps Day Nursery was established in March 1993.
The baby and toddler room take up to twelve children from the age of three months.
Children stay in this area until we feel they are ready for the next stage - this might be at around eighteen to twenty four months old.
Children are then cared for in our main room until the year before they start school. Your child is then transferred to the pre-school classroom.
For babies and toddlers under two, the staff ratio is one member of staff to every three children.
In the main nursery, we keep a ratio of at least one to six, whilst in the pre-school classes, the ratio is one to eight.
Yes, we have a large, secure garden at the back of the nursery.
The pre-school has its own grassed area and a small vegetable plot to encourage children to plant and eat a healthy diet.
Babies and toddlers have a small secure garden with an area for pushchairs which also offers a safe sleep outside in the fresh air good weather permits.
All exterior areas are only accessible from the nursery and the children are supervised at all times.
We have shaded play areas in the summer; therefore, we do encourage children to wear a hat for outdoor play in the garden so we request a hat is provided.
Sunscreen is provided for all children unless we are informed to the contrary by the parent or carer.
For winter and chilly/wet days, please provide a warm waterproof coat, a hat and wellington boots.
Weather permitting, babies often sleep in prams outside in the secure baby area; there are also cots available in the quiet room where babies are constantly monitored.
At First Steps, we provide a broad and varied range of engaging activities toys and safe play equipment to help stimulate your child and encourage them to develop to their full potential.
Yes, and we have recently been awarded 5 stars for our food and hygiene.
